Sergeant Major James Wood is a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and East Lansing, Michigan. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. SGM Wood joined the unit in 2001, where he served as a trumpet player in the Concert Band for 14 years prior to joining the Support Element. He and his wife, Holly, an alumnus of the Army Field Band, have three children.
